Final project blog

part 1 I think that using blogs for writing is better than journals.I feel this way because I can interact with fellow students and see their ideas on writing.I feel that I progressed from the start of the semester when it came to using blogger.I've learned and became better at writing essays by having fellow students view my work and me viewing theirs.

part 2 I feel that i've really gotten better at writing essays from when I first started the class. I feel my strength in writing is being creative and developing a lot of material. But as far as my weakness I feel that I sometimes tend to get off track with the topic that I am writing about. So i think I still need to work on having a significant idea and sticking with that idea.

Revision The woman who died in the waiting room

The reading The woman who died in the waiting room by jeneen interlandi newsweek, july 12,2008. Is about how a woman was ignored in the waiting room of a brooklyn hospital and died due to bloodclots in her legs. The writer is is trying to state how people across the country who are poor or uninsured are for the most part neglected from proper medical treatment. I agree with the writers statements that poor people or people with out insurance are not treated with proper medical treatment.

The writer states how public hospitals across the country have had issues with providing phsyciatric care to poor and uninsured people since the 1960;s. This statement makes a lot of sense due to what I see on the streets. I'm always seeing drunk homeless people passed out right on the sidewalk. And it always takes for ever for the ambulance to assist those people. As oppose to a regular person getting better assistance. I always wonder if those homeless people passed out on the street ever get any real treatment when they get to the hospital. If two security guards and staff members ignored Esmin green in the state she was in I guess in a lot fo areas it;s no better for those homeless people.

The author also states that the unfortunate mentally ill should be provided a place in society. I feel the same exact way the writer does. The reading also mentions how the unfortunate mentally ill patience wait twice as long as other patience. In my opinion they should have special hospitals that are provided to those who are uninsured or simply people who are just poor. I dont have medical insurance and i recently got into are car accident I had to wait over night in the hospital until I finally got to see a doctor. Even thought I was bleeding alot and had bruises and cuts all over me. There has to be a better option for people without medical insurance. This country puts all its money towards building jails, they should have enough money to make this kind of hospital possible.

Therefore I feel that we are all human. One person shouldn't get treated better because he or she has more money than the other person. There should be special medical facilities for people without insurance.

The reading Is music a good tool for health by Elizabeth scott is a passage on music therapy and the various positive effects that music has on the human body. The writer speaks on music being used to help, cancer patients and kids who have attetion problems. i agree with the writers point on how music can play a big role on peoples recovery from illnesses and other issues in their life.

The writer states in the first paragraph of the passage, how music therapy is starting to use music to help cancer patients. I agree with that because there is proof that music can help with illnesses. About a year ago I was watching the news and heard a story about a boy who was in a colma for a while. For whatever reason an nsync  song was playing and the boy started moving his arms and legs. The music woke the boy up from his colma, and later in a interview with the boy he told the reporter that nsync was his favorite band to listen ton. So I do feel that music can reach a deep part inside of us that other treatment cant.

Another detail from the passage I agree with is how music can help people with concentration problems. The writer states in the second paragraph how faster beats bring sharper concentration and more alert thinking. For example over the summer i had to study for the rct test at my high school to get my diploma. I had to study alot of material in a short amount of time and I would get stressed out. I found that studying in a dark quiet room made me depressed and added on to my stress. Therefore making it harder for me to concentrate. My friend gave good advice and said why not make studying more fun by changing the mood of it. He suggested playing some music to bring more life in the room . I found that his advice worked, the music really cheered me up and took off some of the added stress due to lack of interest. And I ended up passing the rct because I was able to make studying more interesting with music.

Therefore the author has made a good point and I feel music can play a role in solving people issues in society today. Whether it is with illness or depression.

blog 5 gone baby gone

In the movie gone baby gone a girl amanda was kidnapped for her best interest in the eyes of officer remy and lionel.Patrick was on the ethical side and felt that amanda should be returned to her mother helena. While officer remy and lionel were on the consequentialism side and though she should be taking away from her mother.

Consequentialism is taking fate into your own hands like officer remy and lionel did with kidnapping amanda to give her a better life. For example if a dog is being abused by its owner some people might feel that stealing the dog and saving it from abuse would be the right thing to do.But stealing is against the law no matter the situation.

Ethical Absolutism is the opposite of  consequentialism and patrick felt that amanda should be returned to her mother. Regaurdless if she had  a better life than her previous one. Ethical Absolutism is what you no to be the right answer not assuming that what you think is the write answer. For example you may have proof that someone stole a game and you might feel the right to steal the game back because you feel that the person was wrong. But if you steal that game it makes you a theif as well.

I feel that the movie is more on the Consequentialism side because they make patrick seem wrong for bringing amanda to helena her mother.Everyone in the movie disagreed with him and he probably wasn't even sure himself if putting amanda in that living situation was the right thing to do.

Revision of catw 1

The reading An education in citizenship is about the dispute between in and out of state tuition rates. The writer of this reading states how out of state u.s citizens are being neglected and are paying more for college tuition than in state citizens. The writer also states how illegal immigrants are granted the same tuition rate as in state citizens. The author feels that it is absurd how citizens born in the u.s have to pay a higher tuition rate in other states, but illegal immigrants receiving the same tuition rate as in state citizens.I disagree with the author in this reading.0-

The writer states how the government seems to put the law of human rights in the backseat. And how the government really isn't doing much to uphold the law of human rights.By making out of state u.s citizens pay more for college tuition than in state citizens and immigrants. The reason I disagree with this is that if the immigrants are unable to pay for tuition it leads to more young people being involved in negative activities.Such as gangs, drug dealing or drug using. It will limit the growth and success of citizens in this country immigrants or not. Immigrants coming to America have less of an opportunity than people born in America.

The author also states that out of state citizens should be granted the same tuition rates due to there parents federal tax going towards the Pell grants of the(in state colleges) Illinois university's budget. I do feel that there should be an agreement that all, in state, out of state, and immigrants in the u.s can pay the current (in state) tuition rate so that way it's more fair to all three parties.Whether that agreement can be accomplished or not I feel that granting immigrants a better opportunity  to afford school is just like any other charity organization we have in this country. We should be looking to help people less fortunate than us. Besides the out of state citizens still
have schools within their own state to fall back on,immigrants do not.

Therefore I feel the author has some good points on this issue in the u.s. But I thing the author is overseeing that there are people out their that are way less fortunate than we are. Citizens in the u.s have been spoiled into thinking that we should always have better treatment than everyone else. If it was the other way around and immigrants had to pay more for college than all u.s students we would have nothing to say about it.
